Nicely put, UnBelievable. FWIW, I haven't been arguing about whether or not propping up the markets due to patriotism is a good or bad thing. (Still, I think avoiding a financial panic would be in the interest of national security. Is this a way to do that? I have no idea. And am I even right? I also don't know.)

There are precious few precedents to draw on here. During many other crisis phases, the stock market was not as "overvalued." World markets were not as linked. Then again, many other crises changed the economic landscape. . . and this one likely will, too. Sadly, due to the tragedy, some companies now have bigger growth potential. There's infrastructure to be rebuilt; defense projects to be built. Then again, I don't know a soul who's running out and going shopping. . . and that will have impact later.

Finally, why don't we wait until we see if the supposed "patriotism rally" has an effect? There's a long time between now and Monday. The Fed might cut rates. They might not. God forbid, there might be other scares between now and then. There's so much to speculate on it makes me dizzy.

And finally, I still don't think patriotism (coupled with HUGE money printing) is the stupidest reason that we've had for a rally. Again, I ask you -- what happened on April 4th at one instant that caused a rally? Why did we once rally on bad employment numbers only to sell off on "better" ones weeks later? Actually, I bet if we search around, someone's got a "Top 10 Stupid Rally Reasons" list on the Net.

This is all just my ramblings, of course. I'm outta here til tomorrow, I believe. I just learned that an acquaintance's Dad is still missing at the Pentagon. Needless to say, financial matters suddenly faded from my mind again.

It's all about feeling good long enough to forget the reason why you were supposed to feel bad before someone convinced you to feel good again. Does this make sense?
