I'd rather kill innocent people.
To preserve a big block of black rock? Nuts.

Besides that, it would be singularly short-sighted. We'd have millions of terrorists in the next generation.
Not if they never break the agreement.

ANd the same thing could have been said of the Japanese as a result of WWII. It didn't happen that way, though.

Remember, now the threats are even. This is similar to the balance of power in the Cold War. It wasn't fun but- -just when was WWIII, anyway? It worked, didn't it?

And how about this: We make the threat and if it ever comes to it, we DON'T launch?

I don't want any part of the destruction of anyone's precious history. I'd rather kill innocent people.

I'd be more upset about the deaths of the million or so innocent people. The historical and religious and cultural importance of Mecca would make it worse but would not be my primary concern when stacked against so much death.
