That was a halfway decent reply, JLA. Don't get in the habit , though. It'll ruin your smash-bash reputation.

Re: "Those who will not join against the common enemy are traitors to the Republic."

Wasn't that a popular theme in the late '60s and early '70s, when the White House and Pentagon lied to the American people about what was really happening in Vietnam? Weren't people who questioned the war routinely called traitors? How long did the military and the Defense Department deliberately lie to the American people while young men were being sent across the Pacific Ocean in body bags? Didn't Robert McNamara not too long ago apologize to the American people for his role in the Grand Deception?

Yes, this is a time for national unity, JLA, but this is also a time to ask tough, probing questions ... and to defend the right of those who do based on the First Amendment.

In other words, take your patriotic jingoisms and shove 'em where the sun don't shine.

"You're not the boss of me" is rarely a sufficient response to a serious criticism. And since even Hillary Rodham Clinton knows that standing united is the right thing to do, I cannot fathom how flapjack could miss the wrongness of taking crude potshots at the president in the immediate aftermath of this assault on our country......
