Agreed, and it is ironic that we have to defend our ideology by force too, but it is necessary to protect our very lives.

I found a story tonight that shows you why I originally thought that it was a simple, religious issue - at least in Lebanon:

Damour was the hometown of my Lebanese host, and his house was one of the first ones hit in the entire war. On page two of the story, his cousin Antoine Ghafari is now mayor of the town, but it's hardly a town to speak of...just crumbled houses and banana plantations. So you can see how it would seem like an open and shut case of religious conflict on the surface. In the article they talk about the ties of the Christians to the West, but I think they left out the part where it is evident that a large number of the Christians are descendents of European Crusaders, and I suppose this sets up a cultural and racial divide as well in Lebanon.
