yes, the Mayor and the Governor of New York have been great and prayerfully will continue to be so. But that big chip on the shoulder of the writer was aimed at right at Bush.

Yes, the mayor can be on tv 5 or 10 times, yes he can be in the trenches all day, and prob. the Gov. too.

IMO, the President cannot, and should not be on tv 5 or 10 times a day. This is a big nation, we are preparing for war, and the writer should let it go, quit worrying about how good any speech is, and trust that the President of these United States, George W. Bush, IS AN AMERICAN, and will do his level best along with EXCELLENT help to do the job that has to be done.

Joan Walsh has done no one any favors by penning that article. Way too biased.

This article essentially demands the President "hit the right tone, be reassuring", i.e. be a good actor. Clinton was, and Reagan was, but Bush is not (nor was his father, particularly). Bush 43 has managed to say the appropriate things and I particularly liked that did not fall into State Dept pablum about "bringing the perpetrators to justice" This was not a crime. This was an act of war.

However, I must say I'd feel better if Cheney were President. This is one heck of a situation for a President with almost zero foreign policy experience.

Joan Walsh, another Bush hater. No one knows exactly what the course of action will be yet, Joan. A sound byte may soothe some but time is critical in gathering information and developing a plan of action. Let Rudy hold your hand if you need it. There is a vast difference between tending to the dead and wounded in NY and preparing to dedicate the lives and resources of this country to a long and bloody campaign to eradicate this enemy. "let's give Bush the benefit of the doubt." "The President is nowhere." These words reveal the bitterness of disloyal opposition and ignorance.
