Still curious how another HUNDRED billion dollars in defense and a hundredfold increase in troops would have stopped 25 guys with box knives using passenger jets as missiles.

Doc,
are you just going to gloss over the fact that you were posting garbage about clinton defense budgets as fact?

when you find the answer to your question let us know. you are part of the defense establishment what do you suggest?

once underway, there is little that can be done to stop such a suicide attack. someone willing to commit suicide can figure out a way to overcome nearly any defense.
BUT that DOES NOT make us helpless.
with enough information, we can take early action and we can counter attack. those were exactly the successful responses to the baader-meinhof and red brigade terrorist factions in the 60s and 70s. it worked against the japanese attack too.

the current attacks have been increasing in frequency and scope...this was all happening on clinton's watch.
the defense of America was his primary job yet he did nothing to counter the attacks and he did nothing to prepare us to counter such attacks. in fact even as the intensity was escalating, clinton continued to preside over the dismantling of our self-defense organizations.

how the hell do you justify that? what did no response get us? should we continue to do nothing and hope they will stop hitting us?

this attack was stoppable...but it had to be done early.
i believe if clinton responded appropriately to the other attacks this one very well may not have happened. the attacks will stop when we take action to stop them.

i am thrilled to see NATO step to the plate and become so involved. we absolutely need our allies right now...and not for political reasons.
the cold hard fact is...like kuwait...we are presently too weak militarily to handle this threat alone.

when you tire of studying clinton's military blunders...go study the 95 and 96 clinton administration changes to the defense and CIA intelligence acts. learn how he eliminated some of our very best intelligence sources. sources that we used to get early warnings of imminent attacks. the relationships that resulted in this network of informants took decades to establish and a mere stroke of a white house pen to destroy. those were some of the sources of info that enabled us to take preemptive offensive and defensive action to prevent such attacks... pre-clinton.

btw, a few days ago, you were concerned that i seemed to be the only one criticizing clinton's military policy...i hope you have been watching tv.

this will make you happy...i am finished writing about clinton, gore, les aspin and the other weak minded military strategists of the past 8 years.
i have to stop.
the mounting death toll of American citizens as a result of their bungling and total failure to take action to defend us, a failure that extends from mogadishu to the American embassies to the USS Cole to the barracks to NYC and the pentagon, is making me sick.

the earlier attacks were easier for most Americans to ignore...they were all overseas and involved mostly soldiers.

this cannot be ignored...today, the bright red blood of thousands of American civilian men, women and children is gathering flies on the streets of NYC and the pentagon.

the problem has now been identified by all.
i expect no more problems for our combat pilots to get fuel to train on their aircraft or for our soldiers to get ammo to train on their weapons or electricity and light bulbs for their barracks and training rooms...even those who presided over the dismantling of our forces are tripping over each other to demonstrate resolve by writing big checks. it is funny to watch.

i am now interested in being part of the solution, contributing anyway i can.
i hope you will join me before you and your family have to witness American blood spilt on your street.

there have been 2 suggestions made on this thread...i like them both...donate blood and send a cash donation to the Red Cross.

last night i reflected on my own red cross experience...i was the recipient of Red Cross assistance for several months in 1969. i was med-evaced by helicopter from a battlefield west of dak to to an aid station at LZ marylou in kontum...an hour later, i was choppered to a field hospital in pleiku...a week later, i was flown to a larger hospital in cam ranh bay. a few days later, i was evac-ed to zama hospital in japan were i remained a patient for over 3 months. along every step of that arduous route there were red cross volunteers helping wounded soldiers. they always had coffee, snacks and sandwiches, blank postcards to send home. playing cards, books and games to while away the long hours. if necessary, they would write the postcard for you...if asked, they would read you passages from the bible. they would help guys drink some kool-aid. help nurses change wound dressings. assist with bed pans. give sponge baths. we had 2 severely wounded NVA soldiers on our ward in pleiku and yes the red cross workers assisted them too. nobody objected.

i have received 8 units of B+ blood.

earlier this morning, i wrote another check to the Red Cross.
