Hi CB, <<power of humans ... own self interests ... greatest motivating force of mankind>> and here I am, doing my thing.

<<People ally with political parties, religions, regimes, industries, because they perceive that is where their self-interest lies>> or they feel they can hijack the organization for their own political end.

<<In some cases (Islam, Communist Party in China a few years ago) it may be the only viable choice>> Very unfortunately true, as these were some of the only vehicles around to hijack.

<<visions>> Some visions are wrong, destructive, and regressive. Some are simply experiments that failed, causing destruction in its wake.

<<Why did America "fail" China?>> America failed China because when the peasant rebellion succeeded in throwing out the then corrupt Nationalists and their supporters, there was a group of 'communist' party members (a member is not necessarily a believer) who wanted to distance China from Russia and held out their hands to America. America turned its back at a crucial junction, an inflection point, because of sheer ignorance of China, or absolute neglect of America's self-interest, resulting in one 'communist' (Deng) missing his time table by, oh, 35 years. Either a world leader is a leader, or not. Help, or step out of the way.

I am not sure what you thought I meant, and am not certain the relevance of the rest of your post to what I meant.

Chugs, Jay
