RH sez: Every brokerage (in the last few days) has said it would be UNPATRIOTIC to short the affected firms at the first chance! Oh, ferchristsakes, and YOU fell for that one? All the talking heads are doing is advertising that their "backrooms" are long Cantor and Morgan-Stanley and Merrill etc., and they want out first. They have an obligation--which I seriously doubt they will uphold--to put the customer order ahead of their own executions. And that litigation won't be sorted out for years. Besides, since London and Tokyo and Sidney et have remained open, as well they should have and I do NOT fault them for, those far flung, market savvy traders running the backrooms have already shorted the bejeebers outta those companies, except perhaps in the case of AKAM, <---it's already at $2 and change)...and laid off their hedges. They are just talking out of both sides of their mouth to the unsophisticated retail investor, and doing something else themselves. Same o, Same o...no it is NOT right, but that is what they, themselves are doing, shorting and trying to minimize the shorting of others, hoping they've guessed the size of the shorting correctly and placed enough bets of their own in foreign markets to make a buck. Geeze, Richard, I thought you were more market savvy than that! How many (of their offspring) will be wearing olive drab...MANY MANY MANY of them. Conscription is always an option! RE: rural america...I was not so very long ago part of a family farm team in Rural America, in a Kansas town every bit as small as the mining towns I now relate to in eastern OR. Don't talk to me about poor old farmers and the way the gov't has treated them...you are WAY outtayourleague if you want to bring it to me on THAT topic. First, bourbon, then bankers, then gold, then farmers,...good grief man...you ARE overwhelmed. FOCUS, RICHARD, FOCUS, or you'll go nuts, my friend! Get out of the macro...go find a nugget, or hug your wife again, or go recite the serenity prayer. It's terrible watching you publically dis-integrate like this!
