I do not think they will restrict Short Selling.
That would take programming efforts I would think.
Furthermore I believe that reporter was speculating.
Some of this is based on what I just heard on CNBC, some of this just my speculations.

The rest is total bullshit if allowed, and if they do restrict short selling that is bullshit too.

Look at the article again, I believe it said normal operations or something like that. Restriced short selling is not normal. That was speculation I believe.

Rest assured they are trying to screw the little guy once again.
If there is a rally, all buys at the bottom will be filled to institutions. Of course they will sell that rally to J6P screwing him again.

tradermike....I never thought I'd see the day when I'd post on so many different threads on SI, but your comment about the "deliberate campaign to rig the market" by the federal government has me wondering....

What type of outcome do you want or expect for this country if the government (and the big money in this country) don't have the power and the will to "rig it"????.. By the way....Do you have any memories of the past or a vision of the future without such beneficial "rigging?"

Will they also restrict "buying puts to open" or "selling calls to open"?

Slightly different topic: I have seen something on the CNBC streamer about options expiry being extended but have seen nothing on the net - anyone know something about this?

The short selling restriction is a mistake also. Lets just say people short at the open and them, combined with tons of sellers drop us 10% (like the rest of the world already has dropped, more or less), well, at some point those shorts BUY TO COVER. Shorts set a floor frankly.

Now the SEC is saying no new shorts, so there wont be shorts to buy, the SEC is encouraging companies about the prob. have years of losses if things get bad enough to use avilable cash to buy shares, and there will be a massive rate cut.

What happens if by noon the markets sell off anyway? Where is the famous lender of last resort then?

Answer. There won't be any.
