Having personally known some of the victims, I share in your anguish, sorrow, and outrage. For responses to this very fluid situation,however, I think it would be more appropriate to post comments directly related to the tragedy at this or similar threads...

Ask yourself whether you would ever feel comfortable again knowing that a government so closely affiliated with the Taliban are possessed of nuclear weapons. This may be an inflammatory perspective but I do not believe that they can be permitted to present us with that threat ever again under any circumstances.

Furthermore, the Chinese Communist party has absolutely no scruples over the loss of life its citizens experienced as collateral damage in this attack. They do not want an American sponsored regime on their border in Pakistan especially if we conclude a strategic realignment with India (as Bush was preparing to do before these events exploded). They will not cooperate with us to any significant extent since it will weaken their own strategic options and lessen their influence in Pakistan.
