DJ Bank Of New York Having Problems Settling Trades:Analyst

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Bank of New York Co. (BK), a leader in securities processing, is having some problems settling trades in the wake of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks.

The problem, said analyst Diana Yates of A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc., is that the company's back-up facilities are all located in the area immediately surrounding the WTC. The back-up facilities are located in 7 WTC, which collapsed and in 1 Wall Street and 101 Barclay, both of which have been evacuated.

Though the bank is now operating from New Jersey with limited functionality, Yates said there have reportedly been problems with government settlements, as well as foreign exchange. She also said that broker-dealer clients of Bank of New York have been told to temporarily go elsewhere for lines of credit.

Officials from Bank of New York couldn't immediately be reached.
