russ, Interesting observations, thanks. <<outside of standard deviation event (also called a rogue wave)>> Actually, it's outside 2 standard deviations which has been used by Bollinger (bollinger bands for stocks) and control theory people to define a process in control. Any process is in control when contained inside an upper and lower band of two standard deviations average of a statistically meaningful data set (~95% probability). Like stocks, where breakout or crash move values outside the bands, any process outside its bands is a process out of control. Artificial intelligence scientists have their own term for this occurrence, novelty burst. A failure to remain in control always hurts the stability of any process. I would suggest posting a link to your post on the GPM thread before gold_tutor dissolves that thread with her hateful digestive juices. <VBG>

Russ, I am not getting any stock quotes to speak of here in Oregon. Are you seeing a larger % increase in the producers over the explorers? If so do you think that pattern will hold? I have a majority of holdings in explorers if you count FGX as an explorer. Thanks.

soft off topic - "... the Greenspan put, the... " Russ, I'm sure many who read the GPM thread have done so in the hope to both get a handle on the gold price, and also directions on the how and where without the why to invest into gold or even the what. Just many folks like i that are clueless on the various physical and paper and other models that gold can be invested into. But sometimes folks like me hear the same word used over and over and feel that this is the minimum needed to read posts on the GPM thread and over here also as i'm sure many view these posts also. If possible with that 100 words or less manner i would appreaciate a very simple explaination using simple buy/hold/sell concepts for the following mentioned word "put." Thanks. Doug ... creates "moral hazard" (also called the Greenspan put, the odd notion that some Wizard of Oz will save the day)... "... hope my 18 year son can survive any wars my country intends to fight by then." Whereas i fully supply a very strong defense and a very very strong action of offense in the name of self-defense, few who are beating these drums will be the ones sent to battle. Also i notice a lack of identification by these folks beating the drums that the battle fields they mention as all being in countries outside the USA, which for this type of war is totally missing the point of what the enemy knows as fighting etc. To take the enemy out etc for what is now present is to not understand what the battle field is. Simply example is a what if of simple to do and extremely difficult to deal with with a possible never being able to correct is if the New York City water supply was made non drinkable with an even extent that it can not be used as it carries inside it death and destruction. New York City could become a ghost town where no one can work or live, and this would spread terror and fear across the total USA with severe results. The drum beaters for military action would be stopped in their tracks if they knew that the enemy can win a war without any military action, just terrorism. Edit - I am not trying for discussuion here about what to do or not, or what are the implications etc. Just me knowing that if already in place are more terror actions ready to just set off then that in itself can not be halted or stopped even if ever terror supply nation was nuked. Seems to me that yes 99% of terror people can be killed or stopped very quickly, but the 1% not may already have weapons of mass destruction ready and able. If so then a massive strike against the 99% will cause these 1% to activate and deal a killing blow to the USA and other nations like Israel with the knowledge that they all may die but that they accomplished a deep destruction towards their enemy before they were killed. Whats possible is not being told to the citizens of the USA by those government leaders that have been told by think tanks people simply because the politicians would have to admit that they knew this info long ago and did nothing. ak
