You are right about the speculation. Most of the big players were in LEVERAGED positions in QQQ's and other big indexes/names on the long side. Most of them were calling for a bottom very soon. Now many of them are looking at Mondays close as something they REALLY want to get out at or around. Without propping up, they cant and likely their options expire worthless.

Long term investors with 2 or more year horizon wouldnt be as worried as these people are. The little buy will be left holding the bag, just like he was when he was told CSCO was a "good" deal in the 40's because it was "near the bottom"
