George, I enjoy your contributions to this thread. It's the differences in opinion that helps us understand our own positions. I hate to say it, but the variation of views I've seen on BBC, CBC and CNN are far more provocative than what I've read here at SI. Can you imagine that?

Prime Time TV, no less... Whodathunkit?

Regards
Frank P.

You are mistaken. I *do* realize that this "confrontation" (what a sanitized word) may carry a very high price for us. You do not, as you seem to think, have a monopoly on truth, nor are people who oppose you "hysterical" or "fanatical". To me it is clear that Islamic fundamentalists want to destroy Western civilization and the correct response is to fight back and destroy them as necessary - and not necessarily using the same methods as in the past when it's obvious they won't work. (And if you want to equate that with Bin Laden's fanaticism go right ahead). The author of the article you posted seems to think we should roll over and play dead instead ("sue for peace" and "cut our losses".) Do you agree with what he wrote or do you always post articles you don't agree with without saying so?

I have no idea what the U.S. government and its allies are going to do and the suspense is very painful. But the ideas you have been propounding are even more painful and objectionable.
