Thanks Poet. I finally had to put one particularly rude and moronic poster on ignore - the first and only time on SI. I'd told him previously that I didn't need technology to ignore him. I guess I was wrong. I never posted to him and yet he continued to post to me periodically. After so many years on life support in a persistive vegetative state (followed by periods of Tourette's-like outbursts), one just has to unplug the patient. I'm still sympathetic to even him, though, because I think he might have symptoms of heavy metal poisoning. I'd suggested chelation therapy at one point. There is a reason for someone being "as mad as a hatter". The hatters used mercury to preserve the fur used on the hats.
