George, The issue is basically simple when stripped own to its purest form- It's about political power. They (the fundamentalists)want to rule the world but the West currently is the dominant force in the world and the US the dominant force in the West and we block their path. Do you want to be #1 or #2? You're going to have to fight if you wish to be #1- or else they will take it from you- and send women for e.g back into the Stone Age. Finally we have friends all over the Midldle East. For example if the Egypt-based Islamic Jihad is involved- Egypt has about a 15% Christian minority. They have been relentlessly attacked and persecuted in their own country by Islamic Jihad over the last few years, such as the recent El Kosheh massacres of young Christians. Offered protection would the Egyptian Christians give you information that would help you eliminate the fascists of Jihad- In a heartbeat. Don't give the fascists too much credit....
