Innocent men, women and children slaughtered as if life had no meaning. As I watched the heroic efforts of the rescuers working night and day a great sorrow came over me. "Why"? I asked. What did those people do to deserve death? No answer came. Then, as this Day of Mourning progressed , I saw Canadians throughout the provinces praying in candlelight. An entertainment group in a western province raised $50,000 for the victims survivors. A policeman in Windsor, Ontario placed an American flag on his motorcycle. His Sargeant bought 100 more and placed them on all the city's police vehicles. I saw the English and the Irish holding memorial services. Two hundred thousand Germans gathered at the Brandenberg Gate and prayed. French, Italians, Chinese, Ukrainians. Sixty thousand spectators at a soccer game in Itan stopped for a moment of prayer. I can't remember them all. Then, I felt an arm around my shoulder. A hug. It was the world telling me "Yank, we are with you". I cried. Thank You all. Ken
