Mrs Peel, I agree with most of what you said...just some more thoughts on the subject... No one, not even the United States has the luxury of making it alone in the modern world. Our world has become intricately interconnected. I doubt if America can exist in isolation. Gulf war could never have ended so decisively and quickly without the world support... Lets do something slowly, but get it right the first time ! <<<World wide support is desirous, but not essential to our determination to find the perpetrators and deal them a fatal blow.>>> I guess the word fatal jumped out at me...What is fatal ? And don't forget, the enemy has the same rights too...to fight till death...and it is more prepared and accepting of death and destruction than Americans are or will be. And it plays dirty. It goes back to what arno said a few posts back and what is the fundamental gap in American understanding of the Moslem <or Mid Eastern> philosophies and way of life. The purpose of life....for them, is different than it is for you and me. For them, this life is a precursor to the next, a better one. they believe all 'heroic' deeds are rewarded in their next life, they are waiting for the next life, this is just an interim. The term sanctity of life is not found in their dictionary. They are not afraid of dying. There is a major disconnect in the value system. And to get into a combat with a person who is not afraid of dying...or does not comprehend the meaning of the word death and has nothing left to lose, well...thats kinda tough for a person who has loved ones and is loved and wants to live and has plenty to live for. A person whose treasures this life. I don't think anybody would debate America's right to defend itself and its citizens. We're just debating what the right way of reaching that goal is....and of course we all have different opinions. I prefer a deadly strategy. You might prefer a more combative role. And does that matter really ? As long as the goals are achieved..? Peace.
