not meant to be funny
pointing out how astonishingly vulnerable we are
when frisked at sport events or transportation centers, then you know we are serious
until then, we are not remotely serious

just think for a minute how easy it would be for your child to be kidnapped
from school, from walking home, from in supermarket parking lot

think of how easy it would be to have some city's water supply poisoned

imagine the damage from a few well-tossed grenades in a gasoline refinery

what would we breathe if a chemical plant is blown up?

our oil supertankers are floating targets on the unprotected high seas

will Congressional leaders have their family abducted someday?

just trying to make a point
WE ARE 100 TIMES AS VULNERABLE AS WE THINK WE ARE

while most Americans are talking tough,
they are also exposed at an absurdly high level
such is the nature of our American life

we tend to worry about things
e.g. finding a packy open for a sixpack
getting laid on Saturday night
earning a few bucks more for that new car
finding those Knick or Laker tickets we have been wanting
cleaning off the motorboat after a nice lake outing

but not about whether we will attempt to fly from the World Trade Tower
or how we will react to an abduction
or wonder if our car has a bomb in it
