Hi Ali Chen; Re "Didn't you forget your own teaching about "opposing superpowers", Carl?"

The U.S. killed Vietnamese at a ratio of something like 50 to 1. Since the U.S. did not achieve its objectives there, they improved their weaponry for the next 20 years. Consequently, the kill ratio in Iraq went in to the thousands.

In addition, the Vietnam conflict was a police action. We were trying to support an insufficiently popular government. Against Iraq or Afghanistan, we will instead be destabilizing an insufficiently popular government. It's a lot easier to break things than it is to build them, and that applies to governments just like everything else.

The Russians were trying to build a very unpopular government.
