I would want to know what makes a young man have the perseverance dedication and courage and single minded devotion to spend all of his short life to training for a mission to kill thousands of innocent people, with no hope of personal survival. A horrific despicable act, but apparently there are hundreds, if not thousands of these men willing to spend their lives killing civilians.. They are a product of a society that routinely produces such fanatics. In the Army I had people around me that were willing to die for the men around them, even when they doubted what they were fighting for. The emotions of a soldier, I think, are universal. These guys see themselves, I am sure, as the GI saw himself in WW2. Fighting for a cause they clearly believe in. You can flame me, and you probably will, but that is what I think.

Like you, I do not want to forgive and forget, I want them destroyed, "root and branch" because they have hurt me and mine, and remain a serious threat. But they are pawns, spawned by a system we need to understand. We need to know the root causes to know what to destroy. It is their society, such as it is, that is the real threat. If it is left as is, it will continue to produce such men. IMO

One choice is to nuke the four worst offending countries, but a few months later, the few survivors will be crawling out of caves and looking to hijack a jetliner.
