I certainly think Falwell's statement was unfortunate. On the other hand, at least his idea of a status quo ante is about 1955, not 955.......

Bin Laden and his terrorists have called us "Godless" citing our materialism and social freedoms as unholy. Clearly, separation of church and state is at odds with the charter of many Muslim nations. However, Falwell's comments don't address these issues as a cause for radical Islam hatred. Instead, he claims we made "God mad" and that's why thousands of innocents were killed at the WTC. If this is his true context, he's lost my respect.

Hi E

First, let me extend my heartfelt grief for what happened in NY over the last few days. As Canadians we have had our differences with the U.S., but today, more than 75 thousand people showed up in our Capital to show support and respect for our southern neighbors. This is only a token of the true feelings of most Canadians. We will stand with the U.S. as allies and friends

Falwell, on the other hand, is at least partially right, even if he's only gotten half the picture. If you concede God's existence, then the kinds of things he mentioned cannot be pleasing to Him and some sort of judgement would logically be expected. What Jerry failed to point out is that the precedent established in the bible show that God is more likely to be upset by those who claim to know Him, and then turn around and live debauched and unprincipled lives, than he is to be upset by the ACLU. Jesus reserved some of his harshest criticism for hypocritical religionists and both our countries are full of them.

That does not mean that they (ACLU types) bear no responsibility, but only that he should also look in the mirror, as should we all. It's always easier to spot the speck in the other guys eye than it is to notice the log in our own.

At any rate all this talk about Mecca is about a thousand miles off. The real center of this dispute is Jerusalem, and the US support of Israel. The Palestinians were dancing in the streets and giving gifts to one another on the news that the attack on NY was successful. The AP has footage, but were threatened with death if they showed it, and they capitulated. I will not be surprised if there is found to be a connection to Hamas and even the PLO in all of this. I am surprised that no body seems to be aware of what is at root of this problem. Cos hinted at it, but I think he was perceived (falsely) as somehow excusing the actions of the terrorists.

That's my 2 cents
Have a good day
Greg

Bad messengers---->Jerry Falwell and religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said the United States was vulnerable to this week's terrorist attacks because the nation has insulted God and lost divine protection.

(Oh mighty God...)

us.news2.yimg.com

``God Almighty is lifting his protection from us,'' Robertson said in a four-page statement issued Thursday by his Christian Broadcasting Network.

``We have imagined ourselves invulnerable and have been consumed by the pursuit of ... health, wealth, material pleasures and sexuality.''

(true , were all wicked ...sherry made me do it )

Falwell, a Baptist minister and chancellor of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., said Thursday on Robertson's religious TV program ``The 700 Club'' that he blames the attacks on pagans, abortionists, feminists, homosexuals, the American Civil Liberties Union (news - web sites) and the People for the American Way.

(what an ignorant pompous...)

``All of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say, 'You helped this happen,''' Falwell said.

He added later, ``God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.''

( Oh , we deserved this ...)

``Jerry, that's my feeling,'' Robertson responded. ``I think we've just seen the antechamber to terror. We haven't even begun to see what they can do to the major population.''

(fear mongers & pedlers...)

Elizabeth Birch, executive director of the Human Rights Campaign, a gay rights organization, said Friday the comments of Falwell and Robertson ``were stunning. They were beyond contempt. They were irresponsible at best, and a deliberate attempt to manipulate the nation's anger at worst.''

Robertson, who founded the Christian Coalition and unsuccessfully ran for the 1988 Republican presidential nomination, said in his statement Thursday that Americans have insulted God by allowing abortion and ``rampant Internet pornography.'' He also chided the U.S. Supreme Court (news - web sites) for, among other things, limiting prayer in public schools.

( I'm sure Falwell , spends a lot of time surfing)

``We have a court that has essentially stuck its finger in God's eye,'' Robertson wrote. ``We have insulted God at the highest level of our government. Then, we say, 'Why does this happen?'''

( and these guys run Universities?)

Robertson was among conservative religious figures who backed President Bush (news - web sites) in last year's election. A White House official called the remarks ``inappropriate'' and added, ``the president does not share those views.''

Falwell said Friday that he didn't mean to blame any one group.

( oh no , you just opened your mouth , and your foot miraculously appeared)

``But I'd say this is a wake up call from God,'' Falwell told The Associated Press. ``I feel our spiritual defenses are down. If we don't repent, then more events might happen in the future.''

(repent , and take extension courses in horses asses from him)

Bill Leonard, dean of the Wake Forest University Divinity School in Winston-Salem, N.C., compared Falwell's and Robertson's comments with militant Islamic rhetoric that has been condemned worldwide.

``It trivializes theology. It trivializes the dead,'' Leonard said.

Moral of the story ? Jerry Falwell and the Taliban have
at least a few things in common....

Washington Post: "God Gave Us What We Deserve,"

...says Falwell.

washingtonpost.com

Gotta love that separation of church and state, don't we?

Lots and lots and lots of religious sentiment rolling right of the White House these days.

National 'prayer day' ... how interesting.

HO HO HO HO

God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America

I think he plagiarized the above from Mel Brooks:

The enemies of America....

"an army of the worst dregs ever to soil the face of the West...:

I've decided to launch an attack that will reduce Rock Ridge to ashes...Take this down: I want you to round up every vicious criminal and gunslinger in the West...I want rustlers, cut-throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperadoes, mugs, pugs, thugs, nit-wits, half-wits, dim-wits, vipers, snipers, con-men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bush-whackers, horn-swagglers, horse-thieves, bull-dykes, train-robbers, bank-robbers, ass-kickers, shit-kickers, and Methodists!

Falwell needs to adjust his medication. That statement sounds as silly as one of the rants by American Spirit, TigerPaw, assenna1 or the demolib pinhead of your choice....
