James...thanks very much for posting that...
As I watched that news clip I noticed that it was getting shorter every time I watched it. The big V shape of the fingers did not make sense. If they wanted to protest the Americans they would have burned a couple dozen flags. When I saw that one character fire that machine gun I was thinking to myself, "You best put that away before the Israeli's show up"

To Mr.Fred Levine I PM'ed the following item earlier today.

I have lived in third world countries for several years, during times of attempted revolution. It was my impression that its very difficult to get anyone to protest anything. Protests in the countries I have been in would probably result in rapid elimination. There goes your body and your ideals.

But once a TV camera shows up demonstrators or protestors arise out of the ground. I saw a situation where there were about five teachers protesting not being paid for the past several months.Once a film crew showed up the five became 500. That is the power of television.

After the cameras were silenced the troops opened fire and killed 37 protesters with automatic weapons fire. It never made the news, who cares what happens in, "The Heart of Darkkness"

When Marshall McLuan calls TV.."bublegum for the eyes "someone else came back with the idea, "The message is the medium"

Be cautious of what you see on television....If you want to learn history...read the darn books.

Regards, Jerome

James, there was no support for the contention that CNN showed footage from 1991, but you jumped on it as proof of intentional media manipulation. Here is the official response, published on a pro-arab website:

Various rumours circulating on the Internet -- alleging that the Reuters footage depicting Palestinians celebrating in the wake of the attacks in the U.S. was in fact footage from a different event -- are false. Still images, such as the Associated Press image above, were additionally shot by photographers from a variety of wire service agencies.

Reuters' International Editor, Anthony Williams, confirmed to The Electronic Intifada that "This material was shot on Tuesday. The suggestion that it was old is false." Mike Hanna, Jerusalem bureau chief of CNN, the media organisation named in many versions of the rumour, told us that, "I can unequivocally state that the footage shown on CNN of a small group of Palestinians "celebrating" was shot by a Reuters crew in East Jerusalem on Tuesday. The allegation that it was shot at any other time is contemptible."

Jim, Kuwait was invaded in 1990. If that footage was shot in 1991, it was in a very short window, long after Saddam's invasion that it allegedly celebrates. I think that piece is classic third-hand disinformation. (His professor *claims* to have identical footage ... etc.)

Occam's Razor.
