We have a history of siding with whomever we think will benefit us, and that includes unsavory characters like Saddam Hussein, Noriega, etc. Ironically, I've read some disturbing articles over the past few days that said we helped supply Bin Laden and other groups in Afghanistan when they were fighting the Russians... We have also propped up various dictators in Africa that were about as corrupt as can be for years. We supported the Shah of Iran, Marcos, well, you get the message. So true. The U.S. foreign policy lack of integrity does not give one fodder for hope of the "right" action being chosen.
