uh-uh. Occupation would work. We were arming the local Afghans against the Russians remember? If we occupied do you think Pakistan would arm the locals? I doubt it, unless they wanted to be invaded. The situation is 100% different. We are talking complete destruction of much of their infrastructure and complete military occupation. No foolin' around. You simple bomb their cities towns and farms into rubble if they continue to resist. Then you setup military soup kitchens. Anyone crosses the borders you waste 'em. They gotta get food. You eliminate their travel centres and food. They gotta come to you. Russian could not control the border without invading Pakistan and Iraq. We have that option and it might be a necessity. The people of Afghanistan hid in the surrounding countries. You simply cut off that option by invading them if they hide refugees. In the last case in Afghanistan the refugees hiders were arming them.

War isn't about being nice. It is about winning. People are clever when you try to beat them. It takes a really nasty attitude to win. I don't see many British whining about Harris's "morale bombing" of Dresden. It was nasty. We wasted one million German civilians. I see some people whine about the A-Bomb in Hiroshima. It was either that or starve the Japanese out. Which is nastier? dunno. They are about even.

We made major mistakes in not invading North Korea, winning in Vietnam and invading Iraq. McArthur thought we could and should have invaded China. He was probably right. We tried to win by half measures. Do that and you set the stage for an enemy to resist you in the future. The problem is not the average guy, but his gov't that quickly sets it up so he cannot participate or resist. It is that infrastructure that we must destroy.

If Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Yemen are invaded then they must be occupied for 30 years and brought to democracy. If we had done than 50 years ago instead of training people like Sadaam Hussein we would not be suffering today. No more supporting people like the Sah of Iran. That is odious.

It is quite clear that Muslim countries will continue to make us suffer if we don't do something about it to end it and end it soon. We must fight the battle on all fronts to win, or we will not end this intransigence.
