Talked to a broker and he's said to buy at Nasdaq 1500. Looking at history, market may well tank 6% or more in the first week. If they rally and fizzle, that could be real troubles.

Major U.S. indexes already have suffered sizable losses this year with the S&P 500 Index finishing Monday at 1,092, just above the nearly three-year low set on the prior Friday. The S&P gained 6 points Monday, while the Dow Jones industrial average was off less than a point to 9605, and the Nasdaq rose 7 points to 1695. The Dow is off 11% this year; the S&P has lost 17.3% and the Nasdaq is down 31.4%.

Tom,

I think there is a real risk that institutions and big money managers will take advantage of any temporary patriotic rise in the market to rid themselves of more inventory. Commercials are still net short. The small investor has always been victimized and taken advantage of and I see no reason why that would change as a consequence of the WTC bombing.

By the way, it may be time for another Greenspan poll (i.e., surprise cut? 50 basis point cut?). I'll reserve my opinion until the poll is initiated.

best...

Tom,
I have to agree....(3)

I would like to see a patriotic rally. Will it happen? Maybe, maybe not.
Personally, I am going to pick up some of the defense contractors and I am looking at some other areas. I will not be shorting airlines or insurance. I will not change old and established positions. Other than the defense contractors, I will probably just watch and learn.
I am unsure of a patriotic response taking precedence over human nature. The very first concerted>/i> response (response, not reation on an individual level) on a local level was watching the price of gasoline spike from roughly $1.40 to over $2, and in extreme cases, over $5 in the larger urban areas of my state. What surprised me most was that every pump was full and cars were lined up around the block and more in some cases. Kneejerk reaction? Patriotism? Right? Wrong? All irrelevant.....just human nature.

I have seen #reply-16357228 post many, many places. OK. Beautiful sentiment. I agree, at least I want to agree. I just have one itsy bitsy, nagging, little, simple question.....

'If I am buying, where is the other half of the trade coming from?'

It's a simple question. Does anyone have the answer?

Until I have that answer, (3) looks like the best bet.

Mildly curious,
lee
