Thanks Sea Otter, a very moving and thought provoking essay. It must have been written before Pakistan agreed to support our efforts to get Bin Laden and the Taliban.

>An Afghan-American speaks You can't bomb us back into the Stone Age. We're already there. But you can start a new world war, and that's exactly what Osama bin Laden wants.

Wait a minute, I think I said about 1500 posts ago<g>. But thanks for posting that, good read.

S O -- I partially agree with all you state. It is a difficult position but one that must be taken. Better to fight than to sit and get shit upon. I have stated here I do not believe the US public has the balls to do the job. They will stop the military before the job is done.
Yes-- most bombs would just stir the rubble, there are others that do better jobs. The Am forces would not be overjoyed killing innocent Afgans but the enemy may find their homes the best hiding places. Fact-- many will die. As you stated this will be a long affair-- another reason we will see the US back off unless the enemy continues to strike. Pakistan has stated they will assist our endeavor. They have no choice or will at best be shunned by the west-- or in my outlook of best, just become more dust.
Yes-- we may need to put troops on the ground but only to clean out small pockets after the dropping of ordenence. After retrieving them additional drops should be made. There is no such thing now as conventional warfare. They attacked innocent citizens. The loss of non-combatants by their choice eliminates any perceived requirement of fighting by any rule book. That gives us a lot of lattitude. Our 1st job will be to let the media know they are not welcome near the theater of operations.
What these people are counting on is the people not having the stomach to complete the job. Two things they have not considered -- one is the destruction in their back yard really pisses them off and second the US military has known this day was coming, have prepared, and is looking forward to the challenge.
