Point taken, Carl. By the way, Intel has three sites in Israel, including an R&D center and a fab. Other companies also have business going on in Israel.

Not sure if that changes your mind WRT America's interests in Israel.

I don't see the alignment of Israel with American interests

There was a fairly strong feeling that the remnants of Jewish culture deserved a little extra consideration after what was done by the Nazis. The fact that the US, Britain, France, etc. had sealed their borders and actively worked to return hopeful Jewish immigrants to the Nazis left a feeling of obligation.

In retrospect, it might have been better if a Jewish sanctuary had been created somewhere else. Where, I'm not sure.

A case could be made that what happened in New York is a partly a continuing echo of the actions of the Nazis in the 40's, and that those actions would not have occurred had the US been less isolationist.
