Not agreeing with the reasons isn't irrational anymore than two people discussing whether the dinner they are eating sucks or not. If the person sitting across from you tells you the meal sucks, and you don't agree, that doesn't make their position irrational. If they decide to throw it at you for suggesting the restaurant, you can deem that behavior unacceptable yet still possessing a rational cause (the food disagreed with said food-thrower).

We aren't going to change bin Laden's mind about whether we defiled the Holy Land or not. We can prevent him from acting in particular ways if we put our mind to it.
