Your answer suggests that the taliban is not as hated as your previous post suggests. At any rate the difference was that the Russians and Brits tried to occupy and rule Afghanistan. It seems to me if your assessment of hatred of the Taliban is accurate they would welcome us coming in and giving them the opportunity to choose a government of their own. If they don't then I guess they are going to side with the Taliban. So be it.

Actually, when the crazed fanatics run to the hills we might have a couple of good options -

1. Tell the Russians we changed our mind and say, "Welcome back!"

2. Give the local women something decent to wear and turn the place over to them. In fact, we might send a cadre from NOW to help get things squared away.

The boys in the hills will be afraid to return and will have to turn to themselves and the odd sheep for comfort. Then we just have to wait as this is a one generation arrangement.
