Re: Bearon's article... So tell me -

Were these guys just extraordinarily lucky to have scored 75%, let alone not be caught smuggling their weapons thru the detectors, or were they the tactical geniuses much of the news media is giving them credit for?

And what if it really *was* a band of cretins that got super lucky...?

I've often asked myself since last week "what took them so long", they all hate us after all. Has the US just been a lucky cretin all this time?? That by rights, we should have had a dozen serious attacks in as many years, given the virulent anti-American sentiment that is widespread in the world, and the incompetence of the CIA and our foreign policy, and our amazingly open society.

The intelligence/damage-done quotient of a lot of these terrorists can be impressively low, look at some of the recent examples. Or at these famous internet hackers. Whenever something like this happens involving complicated systems the lay public doesn't generally understand, the tendance is to magnify what has been done to stupefying proportions in a kind of X-Files phobia.

The answer should play a crucial role in our response, I'd say. If we can ever really know the answer to the question in the first place. If they merely got way, way, lucky, that would be the best news I can think of, it would be a glimmer of hope going forward. If not...

But then again, this may article just represent hoping against hope that we don't have the biggest market crash in history come the opening bell Monday.
