"if no one has facts to back up their assumption the economy will slow considerably and for the long term" If by Long term" you mean five years from now, then I would agree that this situation will be greatly changed and most of what we are talking about is transient. The discussion of a "slowdown" is, IMO, related to a sharply increased risk of a recession, which by definition is transient. Anything that has a lasting impact on trade patterns is "non-transient". I cannot see anything yet that would rise to that standard at this time. Biological warfare would do infinitely more harm to global trade -- but we are not there yet. I believe the risk of biological warfare will cause many decision makers to agree to more drastic measures now in the hope of averting worse things to come. Some biological attacks could be staged very, very simply and could wipe out whole industries.

rising prices for many raw materials won't be transient.

Glenn, it has been provided, you are simply blocking it out.

The permanant closure of the Hancock Twr observation deck, as I posted here, is not transient, it is permanant! 2.7 million/yr in revenue gone. Jobs gone. Just one of many examples.

It is now estimated the airlines may lay off tens of thousands of workers. Some may go under completely.

The permamamnet issues are here Glenn.
