Hi Razorbak,

Please ease my mind and confirm my initial suspicions that the above comments were completely in jest. ;-)

They were indeed hyperbole and they were meant to indicate to my readers that I have an abiding incredulousness about the lack of diplomatic and statesman skills of our current occupant of the White House. He's seemed to go out of his way to inflame world opinion against us. One example is his flaunting of the Kyoto Protocol. For all practical purposes, everyone with a clue knew that the Senate had voted 95-0 to nix our agreeing to the Protocol. Why did GWB have to slap the face of the rest of the world with his unilateral pronouncement that we would not comply? It was a pointless gesture at best, and an incendiary statement of bully boy tactics at worst. And how about his ridiculous insistence that we not re-negotiate the 1972 ABM treaty to suit modern technological advances, and instead propose to cram a missile defense system down the world's throat? What kind of statesmanship is this? It is simply bullying and it is resented. Can't we figure that simple thing out?

[[Aside, my overnight reading is a lot more than a lot of others are willing to commit to the matter at hand. You might wish to be a bit less dismissive of my news gathering/historical background checking. I wasn't completely asleep during the 1980's when we were arming the same Mujahideen irregulars who will be killing every U.S. Marine and Delta Force commando that they can get into their sights as soon as we send an expeditionary force into the most treacherous terrain on the planet. These are the self-same guerrillas who ended 500 years of Imperial Russian/SU expansion. No small feat. ]]

Best, Ray
