Jersualem is simply the metaphor, as it were, the place we established as the symbol of the free world. Think of an X: two lines crossing, them and us. Jerusalem happens to be at the center, physically in terms of the mideast, and metaphorically in terms of Judeo Christian/western/democracy vs. Islamic fundamentalism
