One of my all time favorite movie scenes is in The Blues Brothers when Aretha Frankin after a lengthy pause in dialog points and shouts "Think" at the top of here voice. Indeed it is time to think! Think about how many people are trying hard to steal your money or your parents right now as I type. Have you thought about that lately? Do you think the elderly are going to be preyed upon by scam artits trying to get them to withdraw cash out of fear or panic? Have you warned them about this. Have you seriously thought about this talk about buying stocks out of "patriotism". I hope you have or you will cause you could get crushed if the powers that be decide to sell any fortcoming rally. Have you wondered about CSCO BEAS etc announcements of buybacks. Have you thought about the fact that insiders are still selling like mad. Have you thought about the fact that no leading CEO has said he is buying stock with his own money. If and when it happens will it be NOW or some point in the future? And how much will it be relative to how much money they have vs what you have. If you hold insurance stocks (or any other stocks for that matter) have you thought about what you are going to do if they gap down 30%, 20% 10% or for that matter open up 10%? Are you going to chase gold and defense stock? If you do, have you thought about an exit plan if you are wrong? Have you thought that Greenspan is likely fearing a rise in gold and may try to crush it? Have you thought about what it means to be an Arab in the US? Are they all bad? How are you treating them? Have you thought that you might be passing on biases or even hatred to your children? Have you thought about where you donate your money to in these times. Is 90% of that money going to relief funds or to fundraisers pockets? Think about telling your loved ones how you feel. There might not be another chance. No... Do not think about this one - Just Do It. Have you thought that the terrorists want us to panic? To rush out and buy water, gasoline, propane, TP and god knows what else. It is hard to maintain some sence of normalcy but that is the best course of action. Try and lead an ordinary life: Get out and do something. I planted Spring bulbs today. Took my mind off all this gloom for a while. When they pop up in the Spring I will be happy. Eventually the market will pop back up. But do not be fooled by false patriotism and buy because of it. Buy after you think. Sell after you think. Plan the trade and trade the plan. Think about what you have and not what you lost, or you will go nuts. I am sure I have left many many things off this list. Everone needs their own list. But Please....... THINK! PS if you have not seen the Blues Brothers and need a little cheering up, go out and rent it. M
