Good afternoon Fred.

It seems that everything the media is putting out on the wires is downplaying how the markets will react on Monday. This alone makes me a little wary about what Monday holds in store for us.

If you think about it a minute, we are going to activate up to 50,000 reserve troops who are everyday working people and a part of our economy.

Under USARRA laws they will not be receiving a pay check from their current employers once they are called away for duty unless they are exempt. I’m not sure if even an exempt employee is mandated to receive employer based pay while on active duty but I am sure some larger employers will pay them. However, USARRA protects and guarantees them a job at the same pay scale and same company once they return from active duty.

My point being that potentially 50,000 fewer pay checks will be received. The federal government will pay them but at lower wage scales than they are use to. This is not good IMO.

Another thought is that gold always rises in times of war. This money would otherwise be in the market so I see demand for all stocks waning and you know what that means. The price of oil is already creeping up at the pumps. Up about 15 cents in my area since Tuesday. This will increase the strain on our economy at all levels.

This is just my take and I may be fully off base here. All comments are welcome.
