A little while ago I saw an interview on TV with a professor of Middle East studies whose name I've already forgotten. He said a couple of interesting things.

He says that bin Laden is wrong in his use of the word, infidel. He has twisted it to describe non-Muslims. According to this guy, the term should not include Christians or Jews who are part of the people covered by the Quran. Atheists are infidels, but not Christians. So Saudi Arabia having American troops on its land didn't desecrate it.

He also mentioned that bin Laden was going against his religion by encouraging suicide.

The professor also said that he thought that Muslim Americans and other moderates should communicate with bin Laden and tell them that he's a lousy Muslim and that he needs to reread his holy book.
