Carl, It seemed to my that E (a she),was saying that Joan of Arc was bad because she led an army. From what I have read, the Dauphan (sp?), whom she trusted, was behind her execution because she had become too popular. At any rate, Joan is old news. Very old.

I'm a little lost. As i understood the conversation, there was a point being made by some who declared the terrorists not religious. I thought, but shall not excavate, that the point made was that their violence was proof they weren't religious. Knowing that violence on their side would not be considered inconsistent with a claim to religiousness, I mentioned the Crusades and Joan of Arc, who led an army.

The answer came back that armies were not all bad, which of course I agree with, though one could.. oh, you know.

So we have established that violence and religiousness are not mutually exclusive.

That was my point. We are all in agreement on it.

Good.

Now we just disagree in general about whether Islamic fundamentalist extremists are 'religious' or secular. Or atheists. (?)

I believe the only way anyone could not acknowledge that these religious fanatics are religious is by redefining religion in such a way they got pushed out of the category.

No one will pay any attention to such a ploy, though. Because they are religious fanatics and kinda wear it on their sleeves, you know?
