>since some of the killers came through Canada. <

Actually -- and this information may have changed by now -- the last official word from the government is that there are no linkages showing any of the suspects coming through Canada.

Certain circles certainly fear that it were so, but seems to me that would be a failure of US customs more than anything. Those folks give *me* a grilling each time I cross the border, after all.

Snowshoe: Pakistan has nukes and despite its claims of willingness to cooperate with the US, some say they are already too much in bed with the extremist factions.

Of all the massive attacks at their disposal, this seems least likely because I'd think all nations, including Islamic ones, would repudiate such an approach and they would lose both popular appeal and lose a tactical nuclear war.

Whitehorse was evacuated too, that's where the KAL 747 landed, as well as a previous one diverted there ... apparently some other signal like fuel management or hydraulic system or something was misinterpreted as the hijack transponder ... confused by the excitement likely eh ... yes the north depends on aviation, and it was all shut down for a while ... one helicopter company in BC and the Yukon was told to keep their machines ready to go on two minutes notice, pilots slept in them that night ... emergency response precaution likely

So far it's not demonstrated that any of the hijackers came through Canada, that was a false alarm at the Nova Scotia ferry, those two had rented a car in Boston and drove north, not the other way round ... not that i'm up on the details completely, but there's been talk of most being in the US for some time, and others entering from the Bahamas and Europe ..... but there will be tighter borders everywhere, for sure, and much longer times in airports, at all travel collection points .... and every time i go to México i'll be adding another swiss army knife - got two now because last time down i forgot the first on the kitchen counter and had to go to Sanborn's and buy another, just doesn't feel right going anywhere without the entire 'penknife, shilling, and piece of string' kit

No talk of softwood lumber on our road since Monday evening, of course ... just as we drop the intraprovincial struggles when assaulted by the 'commerce' department, so that in turn fades into the background when something larger presents itself to the greater family ... sibling rivalry put off for another day

'Looks like Bush will have to tone down his unilateral foreign policy.' ... could be, dunno, with the exception of the softwood lumber highhandedness i haven't been following much of his policies lately ... there is something to the tone of certain statements at times though, isn't there .... satirewire.com did a great piece, 'US accuses rest of world of not putting US interests first' .... yeah i dunno, we'll see how he does on this, whether he can be effective and yet avoid turning it into a christendom vs islam thing .... i was actually fairly impressed by the sensible words on that very point the other day by George I, can't find them now on Yahoo or i'd post the url .... but there are a billion or so followers of islam spread over maybe a fifth of the land of the planet, and barbaric murderers will form but a small percentage of them unless we stimulate bin Laden's recruitment drive for him

So many posts here, no way a person could catch up ... one-liners and sniping and flaming, what an impression of SIers to present to the world, eh ... i did find this interesting, it was posted here i think - azzam.com ... can't say i plan to vote for this bunch after seeing what they did to Kabul museum and those ancient cliff statues and more importantly, their women
