Evil and murderous isn't the same as cowardice.I agree, it took courage for her to take a political stand here. Based on the district she represents, she may even be considered a hero. Now there's a word that has been watered down in recent history. Amen about the dilution. However, both Lee and the hijackers acted consistent with their ideology, to the applause of their constituency. The hijackers may have been thinking about the 70 virgins they supposedly will enjoy for their martyrdom, but they did die for their cause. Lee hasn’t had to make the slightest personal sacrifice in her vote. She will no doubt be hailed as a profile in courage by all of the far left and many liberals. She almost surely speaks for most constituents in the People’s Republic of Berkeley here.Ray posted her stand prior to the attacks. If that was still her reasoning for dissenting, it also shows she lacks the ability to focus on priorities. I know what you mean, and again you're being nice, which is one of your enjoyable character traits. I'd say, more coldly, that she has her priorities very much in line, much as she did when trying hard to find the silver lining in Castro’s workers’ paradise, among other adventures in ideology. Consider this gem from her space in the official website for Congress:As the famous quote says, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Too many have struggled and died in this country for the right of all adult citizens to vote. We must not forget their fight and bloodshed. We must not forget what happened in Florida in 2000. We must demand action now!" That’s at house.gov So she was worked up about the "rights" of those who couldn't read a ballot, but doesn't want to give our commander in chief the resources and freedom of action he must have to defend the "right" of our people not to be slaughtered by terrorists. Such a "right" is vindicated only by action, or the terrorists just kill and laugh until we are so decimated that we aren't worth targeting any more. Perhaps by the time of her grandchildren? Ms. Lee does prefer symmetical, cause-advancing formulations to ordinary meaning: "The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference." stmarys-ca.edu I don’t know the woman so I can’t be sure, but I expect she feels at least as much kinship with and sympathy for the purported victims of our nation as with the WTC victims. But she's just one of the wormiest apples in the barrel. She intends to do others in Congress do by, yes, indifference. I'll concede she has the courage of her convictions, made possible by the sacrifices for freedom of those warriors who weren't sensitive enough to put up their weapons and work on social programs. We need one less of her in the Congress. Edit: Before anyone takes me for a desk-top warrior/stooge of the right wing conspiracy to defend our nation, that means I hope she is voted out!
