But remember, up until now, no hijacking has resulted in the death of all the passengers. Even the few where some passengers were killed, most of the time the hijackers just wanted to get somewhere else. So there was no reason to suspect until the passengers started learning on their cell phones what was happening.

Once the passengers on the plane in Pennsylvania knew what was happening, they fought with the attackers, because they knew they would die, anyway.

I doubt whether they can easily hijack a plane with knives again.

They can't blend in and hide. Their skin, their hair, their accents, the way they walk, they way they stand, the way they laugh. Every Middle Easterner here in the US will be under suspicion, as well as anyone with similar skin and hair and foreign accents - Hispanics, Mediterraneans, Indians, Sikhs.

No red-blooded American redneck is ever going to let anybody who "looks funny" go to flight school again.

In the back of my mind, I hear the slamming of the gates of globalization, and that makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck and on my arms. People searching for easy answers quickly learn how little satisfaction they bring. Most complex problems require complex solutions.
