By the end of the Civil War the President Jeff Davis had embraced every one of the doctrines put forward as a reason for the war. The conservatives will be faced with a similar choice, sooner not later. The solutions are however likely to be announced with the zeal and certatude that embodies all of their least thought out and most stupid of plans. I fear that the general public will be put through far more trials than necessary before this process is brought to a conclusion. I hope that Bush's successor will be able to reconcile our allies. TP
