PS: I see that you are not only part of the "Blame America First", but you have have a soft spot for commies. Somehow, I am not surprised!

First: you seem to think the role the US played in making Afghanistan what it is today is somehow irrelevant and unpatriotic to even think about. I think it's essential in understanding the current situation. Our views differ.

Second: what "soft spot for commies" have I shown? The only thing I could come up with was the Allende discussion, maybe you could point to something else. What I particularly objected to in the Allende discussion was this:

I was quite happy to see Alended killed, he was responsible for many murders. Pinochet at least helped the country by restricting his murders to those that earned it http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=16345603

Discussion of rather complex issues at this level is what I find irritating about the macho bluster around here. Allende was elected, despite massive funds funneled into Chile by the US. Pinochet was not elected, and my understanding is that his long rule in Chile is not remembered fondly. The distinction between the kind of sentiment expressed above and the Palestinians cheering in Nablus is where I get confused. They're both reprehensible. When you start talking subtle degrees of reprehensibility, which kind of hatred is good, which is bad, I have a problem.

As for "limited information", I have posted some here. You may find the information in theatlantic.com inconvenient, but by all indications it comes from somebody who knows considerably more about the current situation in Afghanistan than you do.
