re: The NYT's Friedman and His Credentials... Tom Friedman is one of the very few journalists to ever win a Pulitzer Prize TWICE for his writing. The New York Times is very fortunate to have him. You are welcome to disagree with some of his viewpoints though. I heard him interviewed on Fox News last night and he was very sharp and knows a lot about terrorism and its origins. He feels the U.S. MUST launch the equivalent of A NEW MANHATTEN PROJECT (where we recruit our best minds and bravest soldiers, and our most advanced technologists). This would help address the new War on Terrorism in some new and more effective ways. Mr. Friedman also claims that Osama Bin Laden is commited to pure evil and our Intelligence System failed since was unable to imagine the potential for evil within our borders on a grand scale (like we witnessed last week). Our imagination has now been stretched to new boundries. Friedman firmly believes that terrorism is a cancer and that it must be addressed in a very serious way.
