RE:"It's not a long book. Go read it, then freely express to us all what insights you gained from it. But it's obvious that we cannot trust the opinions of others on this subject. There are just too many people out there with a chip on their shoulders, and it is too hard to tell which is which. Go read it yourself."

Well actually I have been...and have gained much insight from it.
Much of it's rhetoric is not unlike other holy books. It states that it is the final holy book. The last book of god. The only way to salvation. Says other religions have either gone a-stray (Jewish) or are Pagan (Christian).

Pretty apparent that the factions that would use the teachings of the Koran as reasons for murder are not the mainstream. OTOH, after reading it it possible to see what verses they "could" interpret to justify their actions. To be fair this is not unlike the verses of some other religions.
It appears that the basis of Islam goes back to the teachings of Abraham and Allah is the same God of the bible.
Therefore there are inherent similarities. Even the teachings of the Koran parallel the ten commandments.

Some of the verses refer to the time of "war", which you mentioned in a previous post which you said nulified the translation.
It appears some followers thnk that they are "at war".
That would give justification for them to kick in.
Maybe this is the holy war or jihad..

Sorry for the way off topic but I always like to have a better understanding why people dislike the West.
