I don't disagree with any of that. There is a psychological need for the American people right now which will not be denied. It must be hoped that, when that rage has been dissipated, that the longterm, rational operations of attacking terrorism may be a team effort at all times, and will at all times seek to give minimal excuse for individual countries to define the operation as an agression by the US against a particular culture or State. Diplomacy must be 99% of this "war".

I do believe, however, that there will be a severe effort at assisting in a change of the power structure in Afghanistan, and that this will be an effort that will involve the self interest of many. After that, the whole key will be in assuring that others DO have a self interest in seeing certain extreme elements rooted out in other parts of the world. Again, diplomacy, deal making, and a brutally honest attempt to prevent any "we" vs. "them" interpretation where "them" is anyone other than the extreme fanatics--those who truly threaten all the planet by their willingness to use whatever weapons they may possess, and in the most indiscriminate and inhuman ways that their imagination can envision. This is the only war Americans have with anyone on the earth. It is not a war against any religion nor any people. It is this message which they must continuouslly make clear, and it is this intention which must be honored without fail.

Weaponry is not going to win
this war for us.

It would be more accurate to say weaponry alone is not going to win this war for us.

If I were a Taleban leader, I would not be feeling too skookum charlie at the moment.
