But that was not your argument. Your argument was What he wants most is an outright war between the US and Islam. He wants a war that will make the position of Arab moderates untenable, a war that will force every Arab to surrender or join the extremists. He wants to provoke a battle that will make him and those like him the leaders of the Arab world. He wants total polarization. He wants us to strike back blindly, with weapons that will not touch him and his core people - they will be very well hidden at this point - but which will devastate as many innocents as possible, driving thousands of new recruits to his ranks. not that bombing or invading Afghanistan will not wipe out every terrorist; we know that. What it may do, Steven, is put them and their shelterers on notice that if they do strike against us they had best be prepared to pay a high price.
