I can't figure out what happened; it's an easy bridge
to get through and the weather was good.
I sent a PM to MB, asking if it was him and haven't
heard back.

The time it happened would normally
put the Mate on the wheel, but hitting it is just hard for me to picture, it seems to me it would have to be
gross neglgence even if her steering went down
as I'm "almost certain" she is twin screw and should have been able clear the bridge with her steering out.
I'll try to find out more today.
That tow boat company is not a real large one and
I doubt they have enough insurance to survive
something like this.
