Arik,

I don't see a big down day today; just too many abnormal factors will be propping it up for the next five days. But they're not starting Globex futures till 9:30, so who knows what to expect? The 8:10 premarket session? Forget it. Stay out of it.

Longer term, I agree. We were in a strong downtrend before this, and that should be expected to resume at some point. Unfortunately, there is little positive for the economy in this.

The one thing that keeps pissing me off is the notion that buying into a falling market or spending when you're already in debt is patriotic. If companies halt layoffs, if insurance companies pay what they owe without trying to get off on a technicality, if airlines accept responsibility for the appalling state of airline security, then I think we can make a patriotic argument that the small investor/consumer should do what they can afford to do. But with personal bankruptcies running at a record pace, home equity at an all-time low and homeowners falling behind on their mortgages at a record pace, the notion that it is unpatriotic to save and to spend only what you can reasonably afford is laughable. JMHO.
