Uh, Tradermike, as I understand them, SHORTS are IOU's, promises to pay at some future date for the loans you've taken out, mostly without the owners permission. Trite and childish descriptions? But oh so true.

We are about to find out!

My guess is that the bears who brought these stocks down, were under the mistaken impression that they alone would decide when these IOU's would be paid.

As an Investor I never understood the psychology, this should be an interesting lesson.
